Ths Sciences is an album that will change your life, if you let it. In accordance with the prophecy, The Sciences reveal that we mortals are only the vessels through which the energy flows. There is no up, no down, only Sleep. Burn in the abyss trying to deny it. The holy trinity, Al, Matt, and Jason have always been, and will always be. Sleep, and wake. Sleep, and wake.

By now most people have finally come around to appreciating Sleep and the fine offerings that were overlooked in the 90s while the extreme metal scenes were coming out from the underground. Holy Mountain finally got the reception it deserved in the late 2000s. Dopesmoker got a portion of a documentary on YouTube and also a rerelease and the genre was reborn a decade and a half late. None the less, Sleep acquired the position that many felt was long past due. A single song from Adult Swim displayed the galactic caravan was still trudging onwards. Finally the sciences arrives and gives everyone who stayed faithful the answer and epiphany the weedian mythos promised. Three brand new songs and two songs that never had a produced release. The new material returns us to a place where we were when we first heard Sleep. That place were passive receptivity isn’t going to do much for you. Only proper meditation on Sleep’s music gives it contemplative justice. Sonic Titan and Antarticans Thawed are familiar and sound even more ominous in this release. Marijuanaut is s dizzying array of Sleep vibes that I truly didn’t fully appreciate until the 4th listen. The mysterious riff structure reveals itself gradually. Slowly become less chaotic and showing that it’s quite coherent and lifting. My only hope is that we get new material from Sleep before another decade or two passes. This is an arena of creative depth that needs more offerings. For now. We have new meditations for the coming years as the caravan continues off into the infinite warm fuzzy black.
